Fish Fly Bouts

When thinking about boutonnieres for the guys I found a lot of pretty pictures of flowers, but nothing seemed to fit the guys. FI is very outdoorsy, hunting, fishing, camping, kind of guy. Throwing a flower on him for the sake of a wedding didn't seem right...although he could rock it! I came across a picture of a groom wearing a fish fly instead of a flower and I fell in love. So I scoured the web trying to find the perfect lure/fish fly for the job. (It had to be mainly dark purple a big enough to stand out) This was a lot harder than you may think! I finally found them through ebay in a shop in Florida. For around $5 a pop I would say it was a steal. Plus I ordered them on a Saturday and they arrived on Monday!

I then went to my favorite store Michaels and picked up pins and Stretch bead cord (or you could use fishing line). I then had everything to go.

My original idea was to take a hot glue gun and glue a bead of glue onto the pin and stick the cord on it, then wrap it around the fly and secure it on the top. That way, the fly would stay to the pin without directly gluing it. I thought that with the fly being a different surface and feathery that the glue wouldn't stick. Well the cord idea was an epic fail! EPIC! I wish I had a picture to show you but the cord completely restricted the fly and little bits of feather were sticking out. Horrible!

So I scratched that idea and instead did what I didn't want to do. Stuck the pin directly to the fly. Well bees, it worked! The pin sticks fine and it doesn't look like it will be coming off.

The entire process took all of a couple minutes. Just the time it took to glue each pin to the flys. We also were debating about taking the eye off, but all the boys like it so they stay! Now the boys have awesome bouts that show off the groom's and groomsmen's qualities!
