BHLDN Reveal

In the midst of watching a horror flick and eating venison Kev caught last fall as our awesome Valentine's Day night, I completely forgot to talk about the BHLDN gown reveal. It was only proper that they released them on the most romantic day of the year, and kept all brides to be with and without dresses drooling over their computer screens. So here are all of their 15 dresses newly released and probably already flying off the shelves.

All from BHLDN
The gowns range from $600 - $4,000. Besides selling gowns they also have a variety of dresses, lingerie, jewelry, shoes, hair accessories. Basically, anything a bride and her entourage will need for the big day.

Vera Wang Has Arrived at David's!

It is official, today David's Bridal opens its doors to another designer, Vera Wang. The designer has already made a name for herself by selling clothing and housewares at Kohls, now she is making designs that the everyday bride can afford.

There are 12 dresses in her collection, and they range from $600 - $1,400. Here is a first hand look.

Love!

Have a thing for one shoulder if you can't tell

The Hunt for An After Party Dress

Being that are wedding reception is taking place in Saratoga Springs, on opening weekend....and it's our wedding!! we want to keep the party going! We already booked a hotel for the night (at a outlandish price) and are hoping that our wedding party and some guests come out with us.

Here are the issues:
1. It's opening weekend! Bars and the streets will be packed with out of towners going and coming from the track (which leads to #2)
2. I LOVE MY DRESS! I do not want people stepping, tripping, spilling food, spilling drinks, and any other horrible thing that could happen to my beauty, happening!
3. I don't want to worry about being a klutz and spilling drinks/food on my dress.

Some how, I imagine a mud pit sprouting up in the middle of the city and this happening to me. Minus the pouffy sleeves,  sleeves, gigantic veil...okay, scratch the 80s dress in general

All these concerns lead me to this conclusion...I NEED a party dress!

Let me tell you, it is hard to find a party dress that doesn't break the bank! Here are my four criteria:
1. Needs to be knee length
2. Nothing simple, needs to have some detail or a little beading
3. Needs to be a little flowy (It is going to be mid July and I will be feasting all day, I don't need something that clings)
4. Needs to be reasonably priced (I already spent bucco bucks on my wedding dress)

Here are some of the contenders.

Dressing The Mommas

Way back when in March, began the hunt for my wedding dress. The boutique where I found my dress my mom also tried dresses on. As well as two other places. It is hard to believe, but she is more indecisive than me, and thought she would find a style she liked and then could find a dress on her own.

Fast forward to two months ago, almost 8 months since I found my dress, coincidently is the last time she ever tried anything on. Now she had plenty of time. My wedding isn't until July, but I knew she wold put it off. We ordered my dress last week and she and my FMIL came with me. I started picking out dresses for both of them to try on.

After two hours they both loved the same dress! They were both fine with wearing the same thing, until one of the women at the store told FMIL that she HAD to try on this one dress. As soon as she tried it on it was a done deal. Both of the moms found their dresses when they least expected it and in the process had a great shopping experience with each other.

My mom ended up picking an off the shoulder dress by Jade, and FMIL picked a strapless dress by Private Label Occasion. Here is a picture of FMIL's dress on the right and an almost identical one for the mom on the left. (My mom's dress is a dark turquoise and FMIL chose a dark grey.)

Did your mom and/or FMIL find a dress when they least expected it? And has anyone ever had their mom and FMIL wear the same dress?

The Search Through The Rainbow of Purple

When we initially decided that we wanted to have purple as our main color throughout the wedding, I never imagined the journey we would now be on. Do you all know that purple is a ridonkulous....yes, it's so ridiculous it's ridonkulous, color to match! We decided a deep purple, like David Bridal's lapis color, would be perfect!

Well, their service left something to be desired and I found a seller on Etsy that would be making the bridesmaid's dresses. I wanted the convertible dress since I felt it would look good on our wide array of bridesmaid's figures. Finding the seller for a good price = easy peasy...finding a similar deep purple in a milliskin fabric = one of the HARDEST challenges so far in the wedding planning process.

The seller usually buys fabric from one company, so she sent me two samples of different "purples."

The color on the right "merlot," had too much red in it, while the "plum" on the left was perfect! Except there was one tiny problem...

Because the fabric was rayon, and not the nice shinny milliskin fabirc, it was see through when stretched. Since the point of a convertible dress is to, well, make it convert into an array of styles, and "stretch" the fabric, it was also out.

She then suggested me to another company. They had 4 different purples on their website so I asked for them to send me all four. This is what came in the mail.

Do any of these look like deep purple? I didn't think so...you can even see my chicken scratch of what the colors are called....deep purple my butt!

At this point I had given up, I think my seller had too! I was now praying to the fabric gods to come up with a dark purple in a milliksin fabric, not to hard to ask right?

I then stumbled upon the company Stretch House. They had a bunch of options on their website and requested around 8 samples in both milliskin and molskin. I even picked the purples that looked nothing like dark purple on the screen....just to compare.

Two days later this huge package is sitting in our mail box. I open it up to this wonder:

Although I requested a handful of samples they sent me every single one! Sahweet! And thank god they did because their colors online look noting like the real thing....not one bit! The purple I thought would work is actually that fushia looking one on the bottom. And good news came out of this search...the fabric in the middle, that is cut in half, is actually the one we went with. It is exact to the lapis sample I have from David's! It only took about two months but we found the perfect fabric!

I know there are other purple brides out there. Did you struggle matching purples whether it be a dress, shoes, cake topper, etc?

Blooming Wedding Dresses

Yes I know it is only February, and that we are projected to get another huge storm this week. But...I really want spring! So to get me in the spring mindset I have been ogling all the wonderfully fabulous flower inspired wedding dresses out there.
